Yes. And adults. We don't trust anyone very easily for good reason. Which is sad autistic people in particular tend to be super trusting by nature & then after being abused umpteen times aren't sure who to trust including various helping professionals.
I hear you. The gaslighting continues long past childhood.. I feel that what happens in childhood sets a precedent for what follows. And it's maddening.
Great post! Parenting neurodivergent children, too (also neurodivergent myself) and no matter how hard we try to do it “right” (whatever that means - but to show up for them in ways that they genuinely need us to), we’re still going to get it wrong at times. This post is a great reminder of the larger and more subtle ways that we can be shifting in an effort to really see them and support them. Thank you!
